Duh! Anybody else check the mail a couple of times before realizing that the Post office doesn't deliver on the birth date of our great nation?

I was more surprised to have gotten mail yesterday, as it was a federal holiday -- although the reason I checked is that the .gov site said "for most departments".
Yeah, I got mail yesterday. Do they classify the 3rd as part of Independence Day so that federal employees can get it off?

Yup -- if a non-roaming holiday (attached to a date rather than the Monday closest) lands on Saturday you get Friday off, if it's on Sunday you get Monday. I don't understand why the 3rd was only a holiday for some; this gives a vague reference. Had I known my local branch library was open I might have picked up a book or two!
I really have to get a new library card at my local library. I'm in a weird situation in that I technically live in the outskirts of another county, but my nearest libraries are in two towns in another county . . . where I happen to spend a majority of my money, damn it! So as far I'm concerned, this is a stupid technicality. After I realized this, I naively and stupidly called them up a year or two back and asked them about this, and they didn't want to give me an exception. However, I did have a library card when I lived here years ago, so I'll just fill out an application and not volunteer that information.

That's a thought. Or you could try to check out a book with the old card and if they complain (do library cards have expiration dates?) they might just extend it.
I don't even recall what form of ID you need to show to get a card. It's been so long.
Jeez, that's a good idea, but I haven't seen that card since 1989! Damn it!

I actually went to Fed Ex's website to see where my two-day delivery package was. D'oh.
Oh, jeez! That really sucks, especially considering it's expedited shipping. I think this situation is quite common. You're thinking (and perhaps excited) how you'll get your package on a certain day, and then it suddenly dawns on you won't because it's a holiday or you forget that company doesn't deliver on a certain day.

Exactly. Frown. Now I gotta wait all the way until Monday. |
