As if that's the real reason! I received a statement from my credit union encouraging me to "Go green!" by switching to e-statements. Because, of course, my financial institution is so concerned about the environment, and not about lowering their printing and mailing costs.
This concerns my money, and I want a paper receipt, damn it!

You tell 'em! It's just like every damn supermarket, these days, expects you to bring your own bags, or they'll charge you. It's no longer a choice. This isn't saving the planet. This is saving the supermarket $$ on bags! Fuckers.
And let's not forget the hotels working hard to save moneythe environment by washing sheets and towels less frequently.

Heh, yeah, I love that one too! How about attacking the problem at its root: industry and production. No, that sounds too hard. Better leverage the collective shame of consumers for profit, instead.

Yep, let's turn all the factories and stores into communal dealing places and live like our ancient hunter gatherer ancestors. Of course, the greenies won't let us hunt, or build fires to keep ourselves warm, so their apparent goal of killing off the human race to make room for the rest of nature will be successful!
Can that even be legal, considering the health hazard that could cause?!
They still (I hope) clean them between guests, but if you're staying for longer than one night they do try to guilt you into using dirty ones for the duration of your stay.
Hm . . . Guiltripping your guests doesn't sound like a wise policy! :-D
Oh, c'mon Jeff. Admit it. The real reason is: YOU HATE THE ENVIRONMENT!
The irony is that some pro-green policies, even the sincere ones, are so annoying that they make you want to chop down a tree just because these policies piss you off so much.
And by extension, you hate America the Beautiful. Jeff, are you now or have you ever been a member of the Communist party?
Gah! Trapped by my own words!

No kidding.
The firm I invest with had two options: mail this huge bulky thing every time my autoinvest hit (twice a month) along with prospectus guides and what not, or just once a year, or never. I didn't really care for seeing every single $5 investment, but once a year is too infrequent.
They automatically "upgraded" me to paperless a while back. Jerks. I know it costs them (and therefore me) money, but I won't see it otherwise. And I trust a permanent paper record far more than any electronic records they might provide. "why, look, 30% gains every year!"
Are you able to print your statements out? I wonder if they'd start mailing paper again if you complained.

I can print them out, but they are not happily hole-punched or aligned quite the same way as the old statements. (then again, less staid companies change their formats every couple of years, so no huge loss there)
Probably I should complain, but the last time I asked about options to drop down to quarterly I was told that that was only for Big Investors. I don't think $2.5M should be the cutoff point for "gee, four times a year is better than nothing".
It's always nice when you're reminded by companies that they think of you as small beans! |
